St. Liberata Italian festival taking place Sept. 28.

John Ferrante of Patchogue has been named the 2013 Italian-American of the Year for this Fall's Fifth Annual Italian Festival of St. Liberata, announced the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce earlier this week.

Ferrante was named by the Greater Patchogue Foundation and the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce’s Cultural Heritage Committee.

According to a release from the chamber, Ferrante is a member of the Patchogue Fire Department and a resident of Patchogue throughout his life. He is also described as an active member of the Italian-American community.

“I have many fond memories of growing up in the Italian neighborhood of Waverly Avenue and it is with great pride that I accept the honor of St. Liberata Italian-American Man of the Year,” said Ferrante in the release.

The festival is scheduled for Sept. 28 from 12 p.m.-6 p.m., and traditionally takes place on Main Street in Patchogue.
