Photos: Veterans Honored at Patchogue's Four Corners

Patriotic ceremony held for active military and veterans.

A ceremony was held on Veterans Day to honor active and veteran members of the United States military at Patchogue's Four Corners (intersection of Main Street and North Ocean Avenue).

The Veterans Day service featured prayers, patriotic speeches and a 21-gun salute. The National anthem and other military songs were performed by the marching band.

Veteran Sam Stahlman who served as a Sargeant in the infantry of the US Army during World War II reflected on the friends he had lost during his service to this country.

"Every day, not just today, I think about all my good buddies who got killed in Europe. They were young people, like me at the time, and never came home. A lot of them are buried in Normandy and Luxemborg in the American cemeteries. They deserved something better; they were the real heroes," Stahlman said.
