Vintage Patchogue: South Ocean Avenue's Unique Theatre

Postcard on eBay shows off a 1900s era theatre that has since become condos.

While the only one-screen theatre currently in Patchogue Village is the Plaza Cinema and Media Arts Center, around a century ago a theatre called Unique Theatre was on 140 South Ocean Avenue.

According to a listing on Cinematreasures.org, the Unique Theatre was a storefront opened around 1904-1905 and presumably closed around 1913 when it relocated nearby.

Now residing in the space are condominiums that have since been built in the area.

A vintage postcard displaying the theatre circa 1910 is currently listed on sale on eBay for $4.99 with $1.53 shipping until Feb. 20. Ironically, the postcard is currently located far away from Patchogue in El Sobrante, California according to the listing.
