Affordable Holiday Art Show in Patchogue

Art for under $100 on display at local gallery.

Unique holiday gift shopping can be both affordable and charitable in downtown Patchogue this season with C2 Fine Art Gallery's affordable holiday gift art show.  C2 is located at 22 West Main St in Patchogue.

Most of the artwork selected for the show is on sale for less than $100, and was created by six of the gallery's most popular artists.  Gallery owners Chip Austin Hunter and Charlie Baker approached the artists and asked them to create the affordable works. The show will continue until Dec. 18, Mon. through Fri. from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sat. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Brookhaven Memorial Hospice will receive 10 percent of all proceeds from the sales.

The sale includes vintage jewelry costume pieces from the 1920's, 30's and 40's that were refurbished by Judy King. King's items, mostly aquired at estate sales, include bracelets, brooches, necklaces and earings.

Jeremy Bortz created a series of colorful acrylic on canvas paintings of flora called Garden of Home, selling for $75 each.  They are displayed in rows of multiple boxed canvases to look like one large piece of art.

The show also includes giclées, which are high-end reproductions of artwork using digital photography. Robert Mielenhausen created giclees of his architectural series for the show, which are $60 apiece.  He takes inspiration from the ancient world of Pompeii and Herculeneum.  One of his originals, Girl with Stylus, is priced at $1,500.  The original was created on a 36 in. disc. Marlene London created embellished giclees of her series of olives and apples on 8x8 canvas.

Also for sale are two mixed media portraits of women's backs by Gianni Monteleone; one is done in color and the other in sepia.  They are offered for $75 each. In addition, some funky framed 5x7 photography created by Adela Holmes is offered for $90 and $50 each.  Her scenes include a gas station and a children's swing set.

Patrons enjoying wine and cheese at the gallery's opening were excited at the opportunity to purchase affordable artwork.  "It brings it within reach for any person to buy art and bring it into their homes," said Karen Ferb, parliamentarian for the Patchogue Arts Council.  Ferb was looking for jewelry for her daughter and sister.
