Press release from Great South Bay Music Festival:

The Great South Bay Music Festival - the largest “American Themed Music & Arts Festival” on Long Island returns for its seventh big year, and will again set up on the picturesque waterfront at Shorefront Park, in Patchogue Village.

The dates are Friday July 19, through Sunday, July 21st., and will feature over 50 performers in the classic and contemporary rock, jam-band, folk, jazz, blues, country and funk genres, on four stages including a Children’s Tent and Stage.
The fest is well known for presenting a musically varied and eclectic lineup of headline and emerging “original” artists, and this year Promoter Jim Faith says it’s the most diverse year to date.

Friday kicks off with rock legends The Doobie Brothers, and a rare solo performance by rocker Billy Squier. Plus over 9 additional artists on 3 stages.

Saturday is roots – jam day with over 18 performers, and headlining this year are jam-fest favorites “Dark Star Orchestra.” continuing the Grateful Dead Concert Experience.Plus R&B – jazz - funksters Soulive, Amy Helm and her band, LI rockers Antigone Rising, and singer songwriters James Maddock.

Sunday Great South Bay is proud to present today’s most respected legends and future icons in the American roots music movement:Electric Hot Tuna, back by popular demand, 13 time Grammy Winner Jerry Douglas and his band..Virtuoso musicians The Infamous Stringdusters perform what they have coined “High Country”, The Carolina Chocolate Drops: A Grammy win for “Best Traditional Folk Album”, and folk favorite Steve Forbert.Clearly, this year we have made a commitment to present the icons of the American Roots Movement, that is currently in everyone’s hearts, ears and minds, and so important to our music history.

As always, a healthy lineup of original emerging artists in every genre performing throughout the weekend including the islands Patent Pending, Heavy Duty Super Ego, LOFI 3, Streetlight Circus, Miles to Dayton, Funkin A, Butchers Blind, Jacks Waterfall, The Point, and from Brooklyn and beyond, Musaic, Jem Warren and so many more.Clearly, this year we have made a commitment to present the icons of the American Roots Movement that currently is in everyone’s hearts, ears and minds. Its music that has always been there, yet lay simmering under the commercial radar. Artists like the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Soulive and Infamous Stringdusters are popular and big draws west of Nassau & Suffolk, and at all of the major festivals. I love all music. I want this fest to be a music lovers festival, to carve out a place where you can hear music that you would never get a chance to see and hear, music that is created and performed borne of inspiration. And as a good friend recently said, not only music that they want, but music that they need!

Original is another key word here, as 99% of the fest is dedicated to promoting and presenting great original music. No disrespect to cover bands, they preserve great music for all to appreciate, but the original artists create a regions proud music history. And Long Island has THE most proud music history of anywhere in the world thanks to the Coltranes, Armstrongs, Joels, Simon and Garfunkels, and hundreds to thousands of others. And if the young talent that’s playing our fest is an indication of what’s coming, LI will have a new flock of mega talents in a few years.   Check out bands like BX2, Michael Jazz Trio and 13 year olds “Youth Be Told”, all have talent well beyond their years.
