Music Beat: Graveyard Lovers

Meet Graveyard Lovers, who will be playing at 89 North Music Venue in Patchogue Saturday.

Grunge-rock band Graveyard Lovers are coming to the 89 North Music Venue in Patchogue Saturday, located at 89 North Ocean Ave. The band took some time to talk to Patch about who they are and their upcoming album.

Patch: What are the names of the members of the band and what are their hometowns?

Graveyard Lovers (GL): Zach Reynolds (Shreveport, LA)- Vocals, guitar. Tricia Purvis (Sayville, Long Island, NY) - drums. Orion Wainer (Boston, MA)- bass. Very new addition Joel Reynolds (Shreveport, LA) -2nd guitar.

Patch: How would you describe your sound?

GL: Blues-infused grunge-rock

Patch: What are your performances usually like?

GL: We put on a pretty loud rock show! Originally we were a duo and then added our bassist, Orion Wainer last fall. Recently Zach's brother Joel Reynolds (of the band Junius) moved to NY and he's been playing 2nd guitar with us. After two shows with us he really fills in the missing parts and our shows are bigger and better. We've gotten really great feedback about it. It looks like for now we're a four piece.

Patch: What is the future for the group?

GL: We're excited for our album Dreamers release September 17th. We're doing a small tour in August (including KAHBANG festival in Maine), and then we'll start preparing for our record release show and hopefully more tour dates in the fall.
And of course, always working on songs for our next album.

Patch: What has your experience been like working on the current album?

GL: In most instances, Zach writes melodies and then I come up with a drumbeat. Zach thinks of the feel of the song and then writes the lyrics based on that. Other times we just write it together on the spot in our rehearsal space. There are a few songs where I've come up with a beat and then Zach will go work on guitar and lyrics.

A bunch of the songs were written and played during the previous year. We molded them into what we wanted them to sound like before we recorded them. We also spent a week in a cabin upstate to write some of the other songs. We came up with some good shells and then flushed them out over a few months. We ended up with so many songs for our full length we decided to put out the EP "Manifesto" before "Dreamers" came out. We didn't want to throw any away.

Patch: How can people reach you?

GL: www.graveyardlovers.com
or sites like Facebook, youtube, reverbnation, sonicbids, twitter, band camp, soundcloud, etc. (we can't even keep up sometimes).
