E. Patchogue Residents Rallying For Salvation Army Building Conditions

Focus East Patchogue are asking residents to go to the building Friday at 1 p.m.

East Patchogue residents are rallying together Friday at 1 p.m. in front of the Salvation Army building in East Patchogue regarding the condition of the building.

According to an email sent by Focus East Patchogue to its members, the organization had asked the Salvation Army to improve the condition of its building over the course of several years, and a member from the nonprofit visited a Focus East Patchogue meeting stating that work would be done to assure its safety.

“They have failed with their promises and have hosed us around for many years,” writes the email from the organization. “We have extended our kindness toward them because of their nonprofit status and the help the national organization has accomplished for many Americans.”

Patch has left a voicemail with the Salvation Army and will update after hearing back.

“The building has been neglected for years,” continues the email. “It is as much an eye sore and blight to our area as the old Plaza Theatre was.”

The email cites the building having a deteriorated front

The business is currently in operation, and the Focus East Patchogue email praises the organization for their work in allowing people to either donate items or purchase them at bargain prices.

“We do not question their dedicated work, but our building codes and other municipal laws demand that we have buildings safe to stand alone, safe for public assembly and safe for the workers, be they volunteers or employees,” says the email.

The organization is asking residents to meet at the Salvation Army location on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. The building is located at 414 E. Main Street in East Patchogue.
