Proposal to Place a Bench Dedicated to the Memory of Connie Fuccillo on Main Street

Dear Fellow Resident,

A park bench dedicated to Eloise Staudinger in recognition of her pioneering beautification efforts for Patchogue Village was placed on Main Street in front of the Colony Shop. The idea for the memorial bench came from members of the Greater Patchogue Foundation Beautification Committee.  The bench was purchased by the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce Foundation with funds contributed by individuals and businesses and was installed by the Patchogue Village DPW.  A second bench honoring Jeffrey Weeks, funded by contributions from Patchogue Lions, was placed in front of Roast. The Beautification Committee hopes to see our Main Street lined with beautiful benches memorializing our leading citizens, commemorating important landmarks in the Patchogue story, and celebrating Patchogue’s abundant volunteerism.

The Beautification Committee plans to add additional benches using the private-public model, private funding via tax deductible contributions and installation on village property by village DPW staff. An individual bench including a small plaque with an inscription costs $1,900 (subject to unforeseen increases).  The Beautification Committee will reserve the right to review the appropriateness of the dedication or commemoration, and the Village of Patchogue will have the final say on location.

With the support of the Fuccillo family, we seek to dedicate a bench for Connie Fuccillo to be placed in front of the Patchogue Theater where she volunteered. The inscription could read as follows but the choice is up to her family:

In memory of Concetta “Connie” Fuccillo (1927-2010) on behalf of a grateful community.

They will take responsibility for collecting the funds, reviewing the proposed inscription, ordering and delivering the bench to the DPW, coordinating payment, and overseeing installation and dedication.
