Bites Nearby: First National Franks

Large quarter-pound hot dogs with all types of toppings in Medford.

First National Franks at 3147 Route 112 in Medford serves large hot dogs in submarine rolls, and caps them off with a wealth of toppings.

The frankfurter weighs in at a quarter-pound of beef, and a frankfurter option is available as well. The franks are topped inventively, such as the Dirty Filthy Dog featuring cole slaw, chili, mustard, pickle and onions. The Fiesta is topped with sour cream, salsa, shredded lettuce and cheese.

The frank that sounds the most heart-stopping is the El Raphael, a hot dog wrapped in bacon that is then deep fried and topped with onions, jalapenos and chili. A “Naked Dog” can also be ordered featuring none of the specialty toppings, although mustard, relish, ketchup and onions are free.

First National Franks also offers fried sides and desserts. In addition to traditional french fries, fried onion rings, fried chips and fried mushrooms can be served alongside the hot dogs. Afterward, fried candy bars and snacks are available for dessert.

Hot dogs cost between $2.99 and $4.99. Hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and, in the morning, breakfast entrees are also available at the restaurant. First National Franks is open Monday to Saturday 7 a.m.-7 p.m. More information can be found on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
