Harvest for a Healthier Patchogue

Patchogue Community Garden Provides Fresh Produce for Local Food Kitchens

The Patchogue Planting Patch Community Garden, located at 380 Bay Avenue, is an oasis of soul rejuvenating energy.  It is a place where neighbors of all backgrounds and ideologies work alongside each other to grow flowers and vegetables.  More importantly, they are growing awareness about nutrition, sustainability and the rewards of having their hands in the dirt.  The pride that the gardeners have in their contributions to this community project is palpable the second you step through the gates of the garden.

While the activity within the gates of the garden is admirable, the gardeners are not satisfied with their contribution to the community simply being a "lovely garden."  Their mission is to spread the awareness that they have cultivated along with the benefits of the garden with the community at large.  At Emanuel Lutheran's Kitchen (formerly Trinity Inn), dinner is served at 4pm every Sunday followed by a community service.  Beds from the garden have successfully harvested and warmly donated enough vegetables to feed the community at these dinners.

In the spirit of community togetherness, all churches in Patchogue with kitchens large enough to feed the community are now unified and called The Neighbors' Inn.

This Sunday, July 29th at noon, please join the members of the garden at 380 Bay Avenue to help harvest their contribution to the community dinner.  Feel free to bring surplus from your own garden to donate as well.  You are sure to leave the garden feeling inspired by not only the sense of responsibility to those less fortunate, but also by being a part of a group of motivated people that are making a real difference in the lives of others.
