Attorney: Laffer to Plead Guilty Thursday

The office of David Laffer's attorney confirms that the Medford man intends to plead guilty to Father's Day pharmacy slayings.

David Laffer will plead guilty Thursday in a Riverhead court to the at Medford’s Haven Drugs store as Laffer's attorney's office confirmed a Newsday report to Patch. 

Laffer had at an earlier indictment on five counts of murder in June, one for each victim and a fifth for mass murder. Prosecutors say Laffer, 33, staked out Haven Drugs the night before he opened fire inside the pharmacy on June 19.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said in June that Laffer killed the four people in the pharmacy—two employees and two customers—in order “to feed an ugly addiction to prescription painkillers.”

“In my view he should spend the rest of his life behind bars,” Spota said of Laffer at a after the arraignment, “and without ever seeing the light of day, without any hope in the future of enjoying even one day of freedom.”

Laffer and his wife, Melinda Brady, were three days after the shootings at their Medford home. Brady, facing an first-degree robbery charge as prosecutors say she Laffer to-and-from the pharmacy, is also due in Suffolk County Criminal Court in Riverhead on Thursday.
