Medford Home Damaged In Fire

Preliminary investigation shows fire caused by pellet stove.

A Medford residence caught on fire Wednesday morning on Middle Island Avenue. No injuries were reported, but the side of the house sustained damages from the fire.

A preliminary investigation shows that the fire was accidentally caused by a pellet stove operating in the basement, said Medford FD Ex-Chief Chris Ivans. The hot exhaust from the stove vented outside catching a nearby wood pile on fire which then damaged part of the home.

Only the homeowner was in the house at the time of the fire, which was reported to Medford FD at approximately 11:11 a.m. Coram, Farmingville and Holtsville fire departments as well as the Medford Ambulance Company and Suffolk County Police were on scene.
