Man Shoots Self After Murdering Two

Woman stabbed, man shot and murderer found dead from self-inflicted gunshot.

A woman was stabbed and a man shot to death Friday morning by a third man who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound as he attempted to flee from authorities, police said.

Jessica Hernandez, 22, of Central Islip, was killed in her home at 2:30 a.m. Friday at 123 Atlantic St. said Detective Sergeant Thomas Groneman. Hernandez was found by Suffolk County Police officers suffering from multiple stab wounds, and was transported to Southside Hospital in Bayshore where she was pronounced dead shortly after. Residents of the building told police that Genis Walker, 26, of the same residence, was seen stabbing Hernandez and then fleeing the scene in another resident's vehicle.

Detective Groneman said that at 8:18 a.m., the same man who stabbed the woman shot Arthur Ward, 27, of Patchogue, in front of his residence at 19 Waterworks Road.

Alexis Hansen, who lives next to the scene of the shooting, said she witnessed the gunman shoot the victim twice in the front yard of the residence. Hansen then ran inside her home and called 911. Police said that Ward was found with multiple gunshot wounds. Ward was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in East Patchogue where he was pronounced dead.

Suffolk County Police and the Sheriff's Department chased Walker in his vehicle, and stop sticks were used to deflate his tires. The vehicle crashed into a building on Horse Block Road near Raymond Avenue in Farmingville. Officers found Walker suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at approximately 8:30 a.m.. Walker was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Medical Center at 9:22 a.m.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
