Police: Medford Woman Killed After Car Jumps Curb, Lands on Pickup Truck

Antoinette Michaels appeared slumped over steering wheel before Sunday evening crash outside Gateway Plaza in Patchogue, according to witnesses.

A 59-year-old Medford woman was killed in a two-car crash Sunday evening in front of the Gateway Plaza in Patchogue, police said.

Antoinette Michaels was in a 2002 Toyota Camry in the parking lot of the shopping center when according to police, witnesses saw the vehicle speed across the parking lot around 6:30 p.m. The car hit a curb, went airborne and landed on a Chevrolet pickup truck that was travelling on the westbound Sunrise Highway service road, police said.

Witnesses told police the Camry's driver "appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel" before the crash. The woman was pronounced dead at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. A police spokeswoman told Patch it was too early to tell if it was the crash or another medical condition that caused the woman's death.
