Police Save Woman’s Life

75-Year-Old Revived After Choking

The life of a 75-year-old resident of the Medford Assisted Living facility was saved Sunday afternoon by two Suffolk County police officers.

Responding to an unrelated call, Fifth Precinct Police Officers Roger Kieber and David Kole were at the facility in Medford when an aide requested their help. One of the residents, Elizabeth Detelj, was choking in a bathroom. When the officers arrived, Detelj "was unconscious and her skin had turned blue," according to a statement from the Suffolk County Police Department.

Both officers began to perform the Heimlich maneuver on Detelj and were able to restore her breathing. After being revived, Detelj was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue.
