Shirley Man Pleads Not Guilty to Vehicular Manslaughter of Patchogue Man
Officials say Steven Tolar was driving drunk before December crash that killed Patchogue man.
A Shirley man pled not guilty Wednesday in Suffolk County Court in Riverhead to charges including vehicular manslaughter related to a according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Police had arrested Steven Tolar, 53, on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI) after the fatal accident in Brookhaven that killed 43-year-old Scott Albrecht.
In addition to DWI and vehicular manslaughter, Tolar now also faces charges of manslaughter and reckless driving.
Police reported Tolar was driving a 2002 Lincoln Navigator that crossed over a marked divider while traveling east on Montauk Highway near Old South Country Road, colliding into a 2011 Chevrolet van driven by Albrecht on Dec. 17 at 10:20 p.m. Albrecht was pronounced dead at the scene.
Judge Gary Weber unsealed the indictment and set cash bail at $250,000 or a $500,000 bond.
