Gas Leak Fixed at Artspace Construction Site

National Grid employees still working on issue.

UPDATE 10/28/10 4:20 p.m.: Terry Street is open to traffic after being closed for approximately 2 1/2 hours because of a gas leak at the Artspace construction site. The valve for the gas line was found and turned off at approximately 4 p.m., but the issue is still being worked on, said National Grid employees. The employees speculated that the leak was because of ongoing construction at Artspace.

The leak was first reported to the Patchogue Fire department at approximately 1:25 p.m.

The section of Terry Street between South Ocean Avenue and Taylor Lane was blocked during the initial part of the investigation.

National Grid was on site working to shut off the gas line with Patchogue Fire Department and Fire Police for backup said Ryan Murphy, public information officer of the Patchogue Fire Department.

Construction workers on site were released for the rest of the day. The cause of the leak is not currently known. Murphy said that the line was not yet hooked up to the Artspace building.
