Abandoned Medford House Demolished

Residents living across from the property have been trying to get the property demolished, which the town says was in disrepair.

A house at 20 Private Road in Medford that had been abandoned for three years was demolished on Dec. 10.

According to a release from Brookhaven Town, the house was in disrepair and in danger of collapsing.

Kathy and Eric Fieldstadt, who live across the street from the property, have been working with town councilman Tim Mazzei's office to have the home demolished and the property returned to a natural state.

“I am happy that we finally came to a conclusion with this property," Mazzei said in the release. "We worked hard over the years to help the neighbors and I appreciate the patience and cooperation of the Fieldstadt’s as we navigated our way through every legal avenue to make this happen.”

Vacant properties have been a focus of Brookhaven Town the past few months, with the town board passing last week a law requiring property owners of vacant homes to register by paying a $250 fee.
