Medford Student Wins Congressional Art Competition

Harley Dallojacono announced as winner, PMHS students also take second and third.

Medford's Harley Dallojacono won the 2013 Congressional Art Competition for the First Congressional District, announced Congressman Tim Bishop Monday.

According to a release, Dallojacono won for her photograph titled "Zipper Face."

Dallojacono and two other Patchogue-Medford High School students also rounded out the top three winners, with CJ Liopyros earning second for his "Self Portrait" in charcoal and Nicolette Ward taking third with her painting "Wolves" in acrylic.

Their artwork along with 23 other students from nine different schools was exhibited on April 5th and 6th at Lyceum Gallery at Suffolk Community College's Riverhead campus. Winners were selected by Anna Jurinich, a Wading River-based painter nominated by the East End Arts Council to judge.

As winner, Dallojacono's work will be displayed in a yearlong exhibit at the U.S. Capitol with other top student art from around the country, and she wins two tickets to Washington, DC from Southwest Airlines for a June ceremony honoring contest winners from around the country.

According to the release, Bishop honored the students at an April 5th ceremony at the Lyceum Gallery, and also thanked art teachers, which included Amy Cunningham who is Dallojacono's art teacher at the high school.
