Reader Feedback: Intersections That Need Traffic Signals

Patch readers discuss dangerous intersections in Patchogue and Medford.

In , Patch asked readers which local intersections they thought need traffic signals.

Below are several of the comments from that discussion as posted on Patch, the Patchogue Patch Facebook Page and the Medford Patch Facebook Page. Feel free to add your own in the comments section below.

Sue Ellen Catlett Lake and north ocean,no one gets it is not an all way stop.only one and you can not make a left from Lake.

Michelle Barracca Homan Not sure who's responsibility this is, but the Target/Sam's Club shopping center has a pretty dangerous intersection which is only controlled by a two-way stop. The cars coming through from Horseblock Road fly around a blind corner making it difficult for cars trying to get out of Target and Sam's. It could really use something to slow down those cars...a stop sign at least.

Something needs to happen with the "T" intersection of Donegan Ave and Munsell Rd. in East Patchogue. Northbound and southbound drivers fail to stop 6 of 10 times, either doing the 15MPH slowroll or not slowing down at all.

River and Division!

Lakewood and 112. Though really, what I would like to see is some redesign of 112 that compels drivers to slow down--particularly by Medford Elementary School. I do not miss those morning drives to the school when I had to drop my children off: cars would be riding my tail, often honking, as I was trying to slow down to park in front of the school. Getting out of the car on the driver's side felt akin to taking your life in your hands. Medians and crosswalks and additional traffic lights would force cars to acknowledge pedestrians. Every other town I drive in, cars are expected to slow down to 25 mph when they get near an elementary school zone. Why not ours???

112 and Lakewood, 112 and Shaber, and 101 and Harrison Avenue/Hollow Oak Drive.

Pennsylvania Avenue and Woodside Avenue along with Maple Avenue and Woodside Avenue. In addition a turning signal needs to be added to the existing light at Buffalo Avenue and Woodside Avenue. Even with the bike lanes, Woodside is dangerous and making a turn on or off these streets is downright scary!

Lake St. and N. Ocean Ave.! The corner of Reese's 1900... Southbound N. Ocean traffic must stop at the stop sign, but northbound traffic does not - even if making a left to head west on Lake St. If not a traffic light, then a sign under the southbound stop sign in big clear letters than says ONCOMING TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP!

112 and East Lakewood - multiple injuries and fatalities in recent years. It's the only cross street on 112, south of Sunrise, that is unprotected and many cross on foot because they don't want to walk up to Roe or down to Oak. The turning lane becomes a high-speed merge for cars turning left on 112 while pedestrians are standing in it, halfway across, waiting to make it the rest of the way.

County Route 101 and Hollow Oak Drive/Harrison. 101 has become virtually a race track. The Worst is the motorcycles who zoom by at 100 mph.
