Sidewalk Renovations and New Programs Discussed at CDA

Next Community Development Agency Meeting will take place Thursday.

While the (CDA) will next meet on Thursday at 7 p.m. at , renovations to the Roe walkway and Oak street sidewalks and the addition of two new programs were discussed .

The Village has received a grant to renovate the Roe walkway, located between the library and Stanley's Furniture store. Changes will include a new iron archway, landscaping, additional lighting and new paving stones. This project will be completed within a few months. General improvements are also being made to the Oak Street sidewalks. This currently affects the area between Maple Avenue and Jayne Avenue. The region between Jayne Avenue and N. Ocean Avenue will be replaced when more funding becomes available.

The Village plans to create two new programs this June from the recently approved CDA budget said Executive Director of the CDA Marion Russo. While details are still being finalized, one is a signage program that will allow for ten grants valued at $1500 each for businesses and another called HomeShare Long Island that would partner the village with the Family Service League. The latter program will pair senior citizen homeowners, defined as those over age 60 that have extra rooms in their house and require financial or physical assistance in their home, with younger employed adults or families that need housing. The effort will help provide better care for the geriatric population of Patchogue while providing more housing opportunities for younger families.
