Welcome Sign, Outdoor Art and Construction Discussed at BID

Highlights from the December meeting of the Business Improvement District.

The Business Improvement District (BID) Committee is responsible for the general look and decoration of the Village of Patchogue. At their Dec. 7 meeting, the committee discussed plans for a new welcome sign, outdoor art exhibitions and ongoing construction in downtown Patchogue.

Welcome to Patchogue
Plans for a new sign welcoming visitors to Patchogue Village are currently underway. It will probably be posted on the west end of the Village at the roundabout at Waverly Avenue and Lake Street/Holbrook Road, replacing the previous sign. The committee expects to complete the design, construction details and exact location within the next few months.

Expanding Artwork
The C2 gallery, at 22 West Main St, is seeking approval to expand for outdoor art exhibitions. According to Charlie Baker, gallery co-owner, this display would include "art on walls, buildings, squares and in vacant buildings." The gallery wants to work with the committee to determine beautification projects and exhibit locations as well as receive subsidization for the endeavors.

Baker stated, "We're working with Tritec now to develop a square, a walking area with exterior/outdoor art. Down by the Village waterfront, we would like to create something reflective of the community and the culture." The gallery will be expanding their resources to include one of the retail spaces on the lower level of Artspace on Terry Street.

Ongoing Construction
Artspace on Terry Street, Tritec on Main Street and Clare Rose apartments on Clare Rose Boulevard are in progress or being planned. The construction along East Main Street is to upgrade the sewer and electrical lines. The disruptions to traffic are expected to cease shortly.
