Patchogue Arts Festival, Walking Arts Tour and Arts Biennial This Sunday

Stroll through Patchogue this weekend for Art and Poetry at the Patchogue Theatre, Briarcliffe College and throughout the town of Patchogue

On Sunday, October 23rd, 2011, Patchogue Arts Council and the (PTPA) will come together once again for the 4th annual Patchogue Arts Festival, a free day of art, poetry, live music and other performances throughout Patchogue.

The Fourth Walking Arts Tour (September 24 - November 6) is being presented by the Patchogue Arts Council. This juried exhibition of paintings, sculpture and photography is featured in the windows and storefronts of Patchogue Village. JoAnne Dumas, Photographer and Educator, will serve as juror and curator. Visit the Patchogue Theatre, which opens at noon on October 23rd, with an artist reception in honor of the 25 artists featured in the Walking Arts Tour. Pick up a schedule and tour guide at the Theatre.

At 1 p.m., meet Elizabeth Oakes Smith, a famous author who lived in Patchogue in mid-nineteenth century. A brief historic reenactment courtesy of Loren Christie and the Greater Patchogue Historical Society will take place in the PTPA Lobby.

At 2 p.m., join PTPA Board member and Patchogue Arts Festival Co-Chair Christopher Capobianco for a guided tour of the theatre.

From 2:30–4 PM at the Plaza Cinema & Media Arts Center located at 20 Terry St., Patchogue on the ground level of the Artspace Patchogue Lofts, there will be a free film screening of "Secret Short Films."

Return to PTPA at 4:30 for a concert featuring original poetry and music from Long Island. Poetry by National Whiting Award Winners Julie Sheehan and L.B Thompson, Spoken Word Artist Frankie Soto/Hidden Legacy and poet extraordinaire, Ed Luhrs. This portion of the evening will be Co-hosted with an introduction by the award-winning PAC poet Michelle Whittaker. The music features Long Island Singer-Songwriters Robert Bruey, Marci Geller, Athena Wisnewski, Bill Scorzari, Steve Mall, Jewlee, and Otar.

Throughout the day, stroll the streets of Patchogue to explore the 4th Walking Arts Tour. This year's tour features a guide you can dial into on your cell phone for more information about the featured artists, arts and culture venues and dining options throughout Patchogue. In addition to the Walking Tour Exhibit, additional arts venues will be open including: the 2011 Patchogue Arts Biennial at , Shands Loft Gallery upstairs at the , , the , and Gallery.

Visit Briarcliffe College for the Patchogue Arts Biennial (October 22 to November 13), an invitational exhibit exposing the public to a variety of contemporary art forms, many of which are not usually seen in traditional venues. The artists are of diverse backgrounds and are drawn from all of Long Island; Brooklyn to the East End. An artist reception for the Arts Biennial will be held on October 29th.
