Barton Students Win Essay Awards

Three students from Barton Elementary School are recognized for their essays on what inspiration means to them.

The Patchogue Medford School District Board of Education awarded three Barton Elementary School students with certificates on Monday for their essay submissions.

Parents looked on proudly as Gabriella Caporaso (fifth grade), Katherine Arias-Cardenas (fourth grade), and Tristan Verni (third grade), were recognized for their words on what inspiration means to them.

"We asked students to identify what inspiration is, the characteristics that make someone inspirational, and someone who is inspiring to them, and I picked one student from each grade," Principal Judith Soltner said. "They had no influence from others, I wanted their own words and that's exactly what we got."

Superintendent Michael Locantore and Board President Anthony O'Brien addressed the significance of their achievements and commended Soltner for her contributions.

"You've been at Barton for six years and it's been running strong ever since," Locantore said to Soltner. "It's a wonderful experience to see these kids learning."
