Board of Ed Approves Trio

Assistant superintendents among those named at Monday meeting.

It wasn't unanimous, but the Patchogue-Medford Board of Education approved Lori Cannetti as the district's new assistant superintendent for Instruction, Donna Jones as assistant superintedent of business and gave Ellen Stegman and additional probationary year as the director of mathematics and languages.

Stegman was approved by a 4-2 margin, with Brett Houdek and William Lavelle voting against her. Lavelle cited concerns over Stegman's interview process.

"I don't think we should be giving letters to individuals unless they provide accurate information and I'm not going to have my vote for someone who doesn't do that," Lavelle said.

Cannetti earned five approval votes, while Lavelle abstained.

Jones also received five approval votes, while Houdek withheld his vote, citing that Jones had not interviewed for the assistant superintedent position.

"I won't evaluate somebody on one job and then vote them in for a second job," Houdek said.

Board members Joseph LoSchiavo and Lavelle both voiced approval of Jones, with Lavelle stating that she was exceptionally qualified for the position.

Stegman, Cannetti, and Jones were not in attendance at the meeting and their start dates have yet to be announced.
