New PMHS School Drop-Off Policy Starts Monday

For after school activities, all high school students must be picked up and dropped off at main lobby entrance starting April 1.

A new drop-off and pick-up procedure for after-school events at Patchogue-Medford High School is becoming effective on Monday, April 1.

According to a letter from school principal Randy Rusielewicz posted on the district's website, the policy will require students to be picked up and dropped off at the main lobby entrance. Security will monitor this area, and parents are being asked to not pick up or drop off individuals in the school's north lot. The letter states this that it can otherwise be difficult to turn vehicles around, and it creates more undue traffic.

The letter says the change is necessary in order to be in compliance with the Vehicle and Traffic Law Section 1200(c), and at the recommendation of the Fire Marshal. The north parking lot closest to the building must remain free in the event of an emergency and therefore will remain locked and monitored. This is to create free and unfettered access to that side of the building.
