PMHS Student Wins Essay Contest

Sophomore Kya Banks wrote about the Tuskegee Airmen.

Kya Banks, a sophomore at Patchogue-Medford High School, is the Long Island Regional winner of the Optimum Power To Learn Black History Month Double Victory essay contest for her historical essay on the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen.

The essay contest was focused around a documentary about the airmen titled "Double Victory." Students that lived within the Cablevision footprint of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut were eligible.

Banks was presented with a computer tablet, and her English teacher Karen Varacalli won an iPad mini for encouraging student participation in the essay contest.
