Briarcliffe Baseball Wins Championship

I am happy to announce that the men's baseball team repeated as USCAA National Champions at the Small College World Series in Orchard Beach, Maine last evening by defeating Southern Virginia University twice, 11-9 and 6-2.

Tournament MVP Thomas Butler earned his second win of the tournament with a complete game performance as Briarcliffe College repeated as USCAA National Champions with a 6-2 win over Southern Virginia on a misty, foggy Tuesday night at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

Butler retired 24 batters in a row at one point in the game limited a powerhouse Southern Virginia lineup to four hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

Joseph Russo, Kevin Licul and Chris Ahearn had two hits apiece for Briarcliffe who became the first team in at least eight years to come out of the losers bracket and win three games on the final day of the tournament.

Congratulations are also in order to Joe Russo Chris Ahearn, Joe Solomeno, and Thomas Butler who were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Thomas Butler was names MVP of the World Series. Joseph Russo was also named All-American and Rick Doht, Richard Ireland and Joseph Solameno Honorable Mention All-American.
