MLB Draft Mines LI Prospects

Patchogue-Medford pitcher Matt Vogel could get drafted by Major League team.

Anthony Kay is on the ride of his life.

He never imagined the Ward Melville baseball team would still be playing into June. Never imagined he’d pitch in the state Class AA semifinals Saturday.

Yet he’ll get the ball against Baldwinsville at 10 a.m. at Binghamton University.

“If someone told us at the beginning of the season we would do this I wouldn’t believe it,” Kay said after Ward Melville’s 1-0 win over Massapequa to claim the Long Island title. “But we did it.”

Another remarkable moment may come true soon after. Not only could Kay deliver a state title, he may get drafted. Kay, who has 20 career wins and a no-hitter to his credit, could be big-league bound.
