SJC Soccer Star Tops in Nation in Goals Per Game

John Dettori, of the men's soccer team, ended season tied with national lead for goals per game.

John Dettori, a junior striker on the men's soccer team, finished tied for first in the goals per game category in the NCAA Division III statistical rankings released by the NCAA, the college announced. 

He is tied with Eros Olazabal, of Manhattanville College, with 1.3 goals per game during the fall 2011 season. Dettori also finished in second place for points per game (2.95), total points (59) and total goals (26).

Dettori, of Bay Shore, also won several awards from the season, including the 2011 Skyline Conference Player of the Year.

Dettori also scored a total of 59 total points this season, 26 goals and seven assists. Other statistics include scoring five game-winning goals and five hat tricks in the recently completed season.

The two other statistical champions at St. Joseph's College include Tim Trava in 2004 for points per game and Chris Kunzig in 2007 for assists per game. Trava has the new head coach for the team.
