Civics Lesson? Integrity?

Residents First in action

I was sitting at the Patchogue 2012 HQ on Saturday afternoon after another day of walking the Village when one of our volunteers, Bob Fonti, returned.

He said, “You’ll never believe what happened! We were down on South Ocean Ave near Hulse Court when we saw a woman and a teenager picking up 2012 literature from the doors that we had just left it at.”

Bob was in his car and asked the woman if she was picking up Patchogue 2012 literature. She leaned in towards Bob’s car window and said that she was and that she was doing it for her sister-in-law.

Bob snapped her picture with his smart phone and said that we had not removed their literature. After her picture was taken, she said she would put it back, and her teenage companion said, “What are they going to do with the picture, Mommy?”

Patchogue Patch encourages our readers, writers, political officials and anyone in the Patchogue-Medford area to submit their personal views on current events and issues. Please note that these pieces are not necessarily representative of the opinions of Patchogue Patch and represent that of the author.

Given the nastiness of Residents First entire campaign I'm not surprised they had people out stealing Patchogue 2012's literature. They've out and out lied again and again! Integrity is the last word that comes to mind when I think of Mrs. McGuire and her cronies. Hmmmmm......I wonder who the person in this picture is? Quite a lesson in integrity and ethics to teach your child.....NOT!
Lawsuits First March 19, 2012 at 04:07 pm
To engage in such despicable, criminal behavior to begin with is abhorrent. To bring your child along as you do it flies in the face of all that is decent in this world. And we wonder why kids are showing such a lack of morality nowadays. We blame our teachers and leaders for setting a bad example, when maybe we should look at who these children go home to every day.
Family Values March 19, 2012 at 05:39 pm
How were Chris and his sister raised where they think this kind of behavior is acceptable? If you want a taste of how Residents First will conduct themselves if elected, look no further than this photograph. Lying, stealing, name calling, and fighting. McGure family values in your face.

This, to me, has been the problem with the Residents First campaign since it began. I have lived in Patchogue for over sixty years and can never remember any party or group being as dirty as Residents First has been in this election. Their motto "Integrity Matters" just has not matched their actions. Their lies have been outrageous - lies about Tritec's plans for the Four Corners, a lie about a bid that Clearview Glass never got for the Artspace Building, a lie about village employees using village money for a pleasure trip, and finally lying to ruin a popular mayor's reputation with unfounded accusations. Now they are stealing signs and literature from private property. Resident First has shown itself to be extremely dishonest and untrustworthy. Patchogue 2012 has run a truthful campaign without having to lie to further their cause. Patchogue 2012 has my vote!

Just when I thought R1 couldn't get any more dirty. They outdo themselves every time. I love the false outrage on their page about Devlin's husband recording a public meeting. "Spies!", they shout. Then they send their henchmen and their children out to trespass and steal from the residents of this village. Vote for real integrity tomorrow, not this dirty, dirty lowdown excuse of a political party.

the fact that she did this while walking with her kid speaks volumes about her character. i know that we're supposed to be worried about "section 8 people" coming to town, but maybe we should be worried about the "respectable" people who are already here. so sad.
Concerned Resident March 19, 2012 at 11:57 pm
Ask R1's campaign manager Ms. Belmonte what her cigar smoking other half was doing in the truck outside the Oar House on Sunday - taking pictures of the guests attending the 2012 event! I heard that quite a few mentioned that he snapped a picture of them coming in. What exactly is he doing with those pictures? If he is trying to intimidate people, sorry it just wasn't happening. More like they thought he was a nut.

Patchogue 2012: Nasty or Nice?
Several weeks ago I got a mail piece with a child with mud all over him from Patchogue 2012. In this piece they claim that "only children play in the mud," and that they were above political campaign mudslinging. During the past few weeks we've received nothing but nasty, mudslinging pieces from Patchogue 2012 which actually contained graphically altered images of their opponents and their opponents' office buildings in them. This kind of childish and sneaky marketing tactics sicken me. Even worse that that is the hypocrisy of their statements. They should eat their words and apologize to Patchogue Village. Just an opinion from a humble Village resident.

Well said, Cresten!
Joseph Siciliano March 20, 2012 at 01:50 am
R1 supporters: is entering someone's property and taking literature that was left for
them right or wrong? Simple question, simple answer. Still waiting for Liz to apologize for her sister-in-law's trespassing and theft. If she doesn't, I guess these tactics are OK with her. So much for all that integrity.
Lee March 20, 2012 at 01:53 am
How do you know if any of this is true?
Joseph Siciliano March 20, 2012 at 02:02 am
Let's say that photographic evidence and Ann's admission of guilt is true. Is it right or wrong to enter a private citizens property and take something that was left for them? Come on, show me at least one R1er who at least has a little integrity.
Concerned Resident March 20, 2012 at 02:22 am
Beg to differ. While I was a bit taken aback by the TWO, yes TWO, negative pieces that the 2012 team put out, that was all it was. There were two pieces and the rest (probably at least close to 10 that are in a pile on my dining room table) were positive. If apologies should be doled out, Residents First has a way longer line of waiting recipients. The lies and untruths, as well as negative attacks, began from their side of the campaign back in July of 2011 and have ceased to end. Wednesday morning will bring a new day and I wonder how they will be able to walk with their heads held high post-election no matter the outcome.
Joseph Siciliano March 20, 2012 at 02:35 am
What in the Patchogue 2012 ads wasn't true? Did Liz not say the mayor's job is part time? Did McGiff not acquire his building the way it was depicted? Do we not pay for his healthcare? Since when did telling the truth and pointing out your opponents words and actions constitute mudslinging?
Lee March 20, 2012 at 02:38 am
It would be a stupid move and it would be wrong. I wonder if the literature that was delivered yesterday was as rude to Mrs. McGuire as some of the mailings I received from P2012? It's still wrong, but I wonder if Mrs. McGuire's image was photoshopped into some ridiculous pose like the one I received in the mail with her hanging off of a train. It's still wrong, but I wonder if yesterday's "literature" had a fake resume trying to make this talented woman look bad on it. It would be wrong, if it were true but who knows? Your P2012 hasn't exactly been the picture of integrity!!
jimmy murphy March 20, 2012 at 10:32 am
Click on any name here and see how many times they have posted before. If it is
once or twice then ask yourself is this a political election day plug or a real concerned citizen. Come on folks get real!
Lee March 20, 2012 at 01:17 pm
Jimmy,
I post a lot and I am very concerned about the 291 apartments...that is my real concern and it is causing me to "plug away" politically. That's all! If I see mudslinging against Residents First I respond to it, and point out that both sides make mistakes. I don't do this because I like or dislike the people in either party...I like the people in BOTH parties in spite of their mistakes. BUT I hate the plan for the Four Corners. THAT is why I post so often!! Call me a concerned citizen who is reduced to election day plugging because I feel so strongly about THIS ISSUE.
Chris Barcelo March 20, 2012 at 01:40 pm
Why don't you post something regarding your platform and it's defense? I understand the sign this is wrong but there's no way for us to confirm that here say. That's one thing I haven't observed from twenty twelve. They can only fend off 'attacks' as they call them, I call them inquiries, yet offer no reasonable response in counter. Electing an official to office should not be an emotional choice, it should be a thought out conscious choice. Unless you stand to personally benefit in some way the aim is really to get the best for the community. Rather than just saying he or she is bad why not say why? After that why not say why you're better? This whole business with signs is childish and if true why did you not call the police? Seems that would've accomplished a lot more of a goal than Patch posting and made for a much better picture.
Chris Barcelo March 20, 2012 at 01:45 pm
Joseph pretty sure you'd be right that that would be wrong, but seriously why not call the police? Would have made a better picture. Also why not defend your platform and boast your plan and why it's better rather than complain about a sign? I don't know I would have called the police being in his position - that's why it just doesn't make sense. Also where's the picture. Unfortunately people are people and will act on their own accord. Sometimes they'll make a campaign shine and sometimes they'll burn it down. What matters at this point with all that has gone on between both sides is that we know the issues and we have a choice.
Dennis Barone March 20, 2012 at 05:46 pm
My dear Dr. Ferb PHD... If this were true you and your kind would have called the police and you would have published the photo...especially on election day...tsk tsk...no mas pantaloneys
Concerned Resident March 20, 2012 at 06:01 pm
Oh Mr. Barone, how nice of you to come back! Have they lifted their ban of you running your big virtual mouth since you can't do them much damage on the actual Election Day?
What exactly is Tom Ferb's kind? Educated and articulate? Jealous much. I bet he doesn't need to use his grammar and spell check much, but probably atleast knows how to use it if need be, which is more than we can say for you. I haven't heard anything from "your" side claiming it wasn't true. Only that she called herself a lawyer. Why do you need a lawyer when you aren't guilty?
JOKE IS ON US March 20, 2012 at 07:59 pm
Save the drama for your mama. Worry about the Village. This election is not exactly a lesson on "Integrity." You and everyone else should be embarrassed. We need to attract business and people to the village, not make them laugh at us. This election is a black-eye for Patchogue. I dont even want to post my real name, that's how embarrassed I am.
Very few people on here offer positive ideas. You're all worried about education, grammar, spelling, ethics, honesty, integrity and peoples past. Worry about progress instead. I highly doubt there are to many Ivy grads who are "ideal" citizens Living and Running the Village. A young guy enters the race and gets torn apart? Why? Im not voting for him so i just dont vote for him. Im not going to rip into him. I applaud someone standing up and having the courage to run. Most of you posting wouldnt have the guts to run. Be embarrassed Patchogue, we deserve it.
Dennis Barone March 20, 2012 at 11:14 pm
How concerned are you?. You sound alot like an empty chair to me. It isn't true or you would have used the photo

dissolve LIPA and give the lines back to Nationalgrid as one company back like when it was LILCO.Read More LIPA = what happens when government gets involved in private business
Lipa Oversight June 12, 2013 at 07:15 pm
The proposed structure will have zero enforceable oversight by the PSC, Comptroller or AttorneyRead More General, Let alone the fact that close to 200 pair of eyes through lipa will no longer be scrutinizing what the sub contractor does, pseg. And on top of all that there is a built in profit layer of 10%, management fees, management bonuses and off island shareholder accountability....That being said and knowing that privatization is not financially feasible. The only workable solution is full Municipalization like 2000 other utilities in the country who have some of the lowest rates and highest customer satisfaction....all the governor is proposing is kicking the can down the street and out of sight regardless of cost to the ratepayer....we can not afford another cuomo mistake like his dad with Lilco....
