Medford Boy Gets Wish To Become Pirate Saturday

Local boy will be a featured pirate at this weekend's Pirate Festival in West Sayville.

Jessie, a six-year-old Medford boy with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, will be receiving his wish to become a pirate this Saturday.

The Make A Wish Foundation and the Long Island Maritime Museum will be making Jessie a pirate for the day at the 4th Annual Pirate Festival taking place Saturday at the museum.

Kathleen Prokesch, the museum's director of special events, said in a release that Jessie will be the VIP Bucceaneer for the day, will be featured in the pirate shows and will have his very own private sail with the pirates aboard the oyster sloop Priscilla.

Jessie's schedule as a pirate will be a busy one, as according to the Make A Wish Suffolk County organization he will arrive at 12:30 p.m. by limousine at the festival and be greeted by a crowd. At 1 p.m. he will be in the Valhalla's Pirate Show. He will set sail on the oyster sloop at 2 p.m. and lead a treasure hunt at the Kings of the Coast Show at 3:45 p.m.

The Long Island Maritime Museum is located at 86 West Avenue in West Sayville, and admission into the festival is $8 per person and free for children ages 5 and under. Museum members enter for free by presenting their S.E.A. card. The website for the festival can be found by clicking here.
