Pat-Med BOE Agenda: Suffolk Bus Extension, Contracts

While not on agenda, Monday's meeting may include vote for proposed Pat-Med academic schedule change.

A summer contract extension for Suffolk Transportation Corp. and other contracts are listed on the agenda for Monday's Patchogue-Medford Board of Education Business meeting, which may also include a possible vote for an academic schedule change.

The Patchogue-Medford Board of Education (BOE) will be holding their June business meeting on Monday, June 24 at South Ocean Middle School’s Cafetorium, 225 South Ocean Avenue in Patchogue.

The meeting’s public session in which they will discuss and consider agenda items is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. The agenda can be downloaded on the school district’s website by clicking here or from this post’s media gallery above.

On the agenda, the BOE is scheduled to possibly approve minutes from May BOE meetings, settlement agreements, a provision of educational opportunities to resident pupils with disabilities, a number of contracts for special education services, a contract for summer transportation extension with Suffolk Transportation Corp. (which is currently being replaced with Montauk Bus Lines this Fall), a number of Bid Awards among other items. Most of these items are on the consent agenda, meaning that they will be voted on en masse and will likely not be discussed through public hearing unless a BOE trustee pulls it for discussion and separate vote, and members of the public can ask questions about these items during the community comments section of the meeting.

While not listed on this agenda, BOE President Thomas Donofrio said at the June 13 special Board of Education meeting that the board might vote Monday on a proposed academic schedule for the 2013-2014 school year that lengthens instructional class periods re-purposed from downtime in the schedule, moves extra help periods to the afternoon and might have an earlier start to the school day. The BOE also have the option of altering the proposed schedule before voting, or not voting for it and keeping the current schedule. Superintendent Michael Locantore stated that should the BOE not vote for the schedule change at the June meeting, that he will not be recommending such a vote for the 2013-2014 school year in July nor August.
